I can't say enough wonderful things about James and Showtime Transportation! My husband and I traveled eight hours to see our best friends get married, but when we got there, we realized the bride and groom were going to drive themselves away after the wedding!! So my husband and I decided to try to find a limousine for our very deserving friends. About 30 mins before the wedding commenced, I was searching rapidly for a company to call in hopes of finding reasonable prices and even a driver available on such short notice. I had NO idea what companies were around the Kansas City, Missouri area since I'm from Texas, so I scrolled down three options and decided to call Showtime Transportation. James answered the phone, and I explained to him how we were trying to surprise our friends with this last second ride. You see, our friends planned their entire wedding in two weeks while the bride to be was stationed in Pensacola going through training for the Navy. She is only going to be home for two weeks before she will be shipped to Japan for the next two years! We HAD to make this night special for them! James did EVERYTHING he could to help us! From finding a driver to drive on such short notice to working with us on a budget that we had to stick to! He was so kind and helpful. I called him later in the night to ask if we could adjust the pickup time for the bride and groom since they were having such a great time celebrating. James was not irritated or rude in anyway way. In fact his EXACT response was, "We want to make this night special for them, so whatever time you need us there, we will be there." To add to all of the splendor that James and Showtime Transportation had already created for that evening, he told the driver to drive around the bride and groom for a little while so that they could enjoy the city lights and cherish the moment a little longer. The driver was so welcoming, and the bride and groom were completely shocked and overwhelmed with joy when they saw the limousine waiting for them! I can't explain the depth of my appreciation to James. Because of him, our friends were able to end their magical night with a fantastical ride home. A LITTLE HISTORY The first automobile limousine, built in 1902, was designed so the driver sat outside under a covered compartment. The word limousineis derived from the name of the French region Limousin, because this covered compartment physically resembled the raised hood of the cloak worn by the shepherds there. An alternate etymology has the chauffeur wearing a Limousin-style cloak in the open driver’s compartment, for protection from the weather. The first “stretch limousine” was created in Fort Smith, Arkansas, around 1928 by a coach company named Armbruster. These cars were primarily used to transport famous “big band” leaders, such as Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, and their bands and equipment. These early stretch limousines were often called “big band buses”. In 1916, the Society of Automobile Engineers defined a limousine as: “a closed car seating three to five inside, with driver’s seat outside.” A berline was defined as “a limousine having the driver’s seat entirely inclosed”, while a brougham was defined as “a limousine with no roof over the driver’s seat.” In German-speaking countries, a Limousine is simply a sedan, while a lengthened-wheelbase car is called Stretch-Limousine.
